‘BAU Bosphorus Sailing Cup’, organized by Bahçeşehir University held this year for the fourth time, took start in front of Beşiktaş Bahçeşehir University Campus with the participation of 70 teams.
Teams held a fierce race in the BAU Bosphorus Sailing Cup which hosts thousands of race fans from İstanbul Bosphorus district and turns into a spectacular visual feast at the Bosphorus every year. The race that took place at the Bosphorus, which is quite an attractive race track in terms of difficulty for the sailors, got its start in front of Bahçeşehir University (BAU) in Beşiktaş.
Bahçeşehir University Rector Dr. Şenay Yalçın, who watched the race with students, said that the universities need to be active not only in scientific fields, but also in social and sports activities. “To create opportunities for young people in all areas is among the main tasks of the university" said Prof. Dr. Şenay Yalçın and stated the following; “One of these areas is the maritime activities we try to endear to our students since we have a campus by the sea. In this sense, being located at the Bosphorus, the pearl of Turkey, we also wanted to organize a race to be held traditionally, besides having maritime-related programs. We have established a trophy by the name of ‘Bahçeşehir Bosphorus Sailing Cup’. This year we are organizing the fourth. I hope we will continue to organize this race for many more four years. Currently our students are competing in 3 boats as Bahçeşehir University Sailing Club. In the past years, they have received very good results both in national and international arena, and proudly represented us and our country. The participation to the trophy is increasing day by day, this year the attendance was 70”.
“YOUTH NEEDS TO USE THEIR ENERGY IN SPORTS ACTIVITIES”
“Sport is gentleman’s job. To rank in the top three makes everyone delighted but what is more important is to know how to compete and improve team spirit. Teams are not individuals any longer here and they become one flesh. This is exactly what is desired because team work shows the way to development. Today is a beautiful sunny day; our boats are racing at the moment. We have just given start. Racing will continue until the evening. Being involved in sports supports the structure that integrates young people’s mental and physical development. Youth should be engaged not only in maritime activities but any field of sport and use their energy in sports instead of different things”,
