THE ENGLISH PLACEMENT AND ENGLISH PROFICIENCY EXAMINATIONS

• Which exams do I have to take I to be exempt from the English Preparatory Program?
  • The English Placement Examination

• What do I need to know about the English Placement Examination?
  • Date: 25 October 2021, Monday
  • Location: BAU Future Campus (Kemerburgaz)
  • Proceeding/Method: Face to face
  • Time: 10:00 a.m.
  • Duration of the Examination: 60 minutes
  • Content: The exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions for assessing grammar and reading comprehension skills. When scoring the multiple-choice questions in the English Placement Exam, one correct answer WILL BE DEDUCTED for every 4 (four) incorrect answers.
  • Assessment:
    • Students who achieve a net score of 30 points out of 60 points on this exam are eligible to take the English Proficiency Examination, and
    • Students who score less than a net score of 30 points will start attending the English Preparatory Program as of 27 October 2021.
  • For the results of the English Placement Exam: You can access the results of the exam by clicking “Exam Results” under “News and Announcements” section on the Bahçeşehir University School of Foreign Languages website on 26 October, Tuesday.

Please activate your BAU email account right after completing your registration.   • Vaccination Card and PCR text - IMPORTANT

To be able to enter the campuses on the exam days, you must be vaccinated. If you are not vaccinated, you must have a negative PCR test taken within the last 48 hours. Vaccination cards and/or PCR tests taken in your country are valid.

• What do I need to know about the English Proficiency Examination?
  • Date: 27 October 2021, Wednesday
  • Location: BAU Future Campus (Kemerburgaz)
  • Proceeding/Method: Face to face
  • Time: 9:00 a.m.
  • Written: 27 October 2021, Wednesday between 09:00-12:15
  • Speaking: 27 October 2021, Wednesday, in 10-minute time intervals (per student) between 13:00-17:30, based on an appointment system. You can find your Speaking Exam appointment time on “Exam Information” page under “News and Announcements” section on the website of Bahçeşehir University School of Foreign Languages, on 26 October 2021, Tuesday.

• • Content:  The written exam consists of 50 multiple choice vocabulary, use of English and reading comprehension questions; plus, a writing (a composition) section. The overall scoring of the English Proficiency Exam is out of 100, with the multiple-choice questions being assessed out of 50 points, the Writing section out of 25 points and the Speaking exam section out of 25 points.
  • Assessment: 
    •  Students who achieve a score of 60 (sixty) points out of 100 (one hundred) will be exempt from English Preparatory Program.
    • For students registered in the Department of English Language Teaching and Medicine, the minimum passing grade is 80 (eighty) points out of 100 (one hundred).   
    •  Students who have achieved less than 60 points will start attending the English Preparatory Program as of 1 November 2021.
